The outbreak of COVID-19 was sudden. It was not expected. No one knew this was coming. We were not prepared. But now it has come. What to do till the time we are ready with a vaccination or a cure?


We have to stop it from spreading! We have to contain it.


More than 80% infections spread through touch –whether it is bacterial or viral. We have to eliminate viruses & bacteria from high touch surfaces at Home and public places.


Oxide Nanomaterials hold a great promise in this regard. How?

Oxides are hard. Their surface at the nanometre level is Abrasive – there are sharp edges and corners. These oxide nanomaterial with sharp edges and corners, rupture the cell wall or the viral envelope leading to elimination of the Virus. The size of an Oxide Nanoparticle is around 20-50nm, while the size of a virus can be as large as 400nm. When viruses interact with Nanoparticles there are chances that the Nanoparticle might rupture the viral envelope leading to elimination of the virus.

Nanoparticles of ZnO are one of the best materials for this purpose. It is already proven to be a great antibacterial agent as it generally acts on bacteria in more than one way. In the same way it might also act on the virus.
